Batesville Police Reenables Automated Phone System to Combat Spam Calls

Batesville police have reenabled their automated phone system to handle a surge of spam calls to their non-emergency line, the department announced Monday.

According to a statement from authorities, the spam calls were tying up phone lines, making it difficult for residents to reach dispatchers. To address the issue, the department has restored the automated option menu, which allows callers to connect directly to a dispatcher by pressing 0.

The department emphasized that prioritizing safety remains their top concern. They acknowledged that the change might cause some inconvenience but said it is the best solution to ensure quicker responses. Residents are advised to press 0 when calling the non-emergency line at 662-563-5653.

Officials apologized for any frustration caused by the transition and assured the community that the new system is intended to improve communication efficiency.
