Two charged after Greenville home burglary investigation

Greenville police responded to a report of a burglary at a home on the 1100 block of Burns Street early Wednesday morning. Officers arrived around 8:51 a.m. and learned the residence was undergoing renovations. They believed unauthorized individuals were inside.

Officers entered the home and found Joshua Bruins, who was taken into custody without incident. During a search, authorities located a second person, identified as Tabitha Knight, hiding inside a bedroom closet. She was also detained.

During the investigation, officers recovered suspected controlled substances linked to Knight. She initially provided a false identity but was later positively identified. Bruins was charged with house burglary and trespassing, while Knight faces charges of house burglary, trespassing, providing false information, and possession of controlled substances.

The Greenville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Special Operations Division are continuing their investigation. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court, police said.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to the community and public safety in a statement.
