Mississippi awards over $104 million to rural health programs

Governor Tate Reeves on Tuesday announced 167 grants totaling more than $104 million through the Mississippi Rural Health Transformation Program. The awards are part of the state’s first-year budget of $205.9 million aimed at modernizing and strengthening rural health systems.

During the announcement in Washington County, Reeves emphasized the importance of healthcare investments for economic growth. “A strong healthcare system is essential infrastructure for a strong economy,” he said. “It helps attract and retain a workforce, supports local employers, creates good-paying jobs, and encourages families and businesses to invest here long-term.”

Justin Archer Burch, president of the Delta Compass – WCEA, highlighted the broader benefits of the program. “Investments through the Rural Health Transformation Program are about much more than improving healthcare—they are investments in the economic future of Washington County,” he said. “A resilient healthcare system makes our community healthier and more competitive for new industry and growth opportunities.”

Among the recipients are Delta Health Center Inc., which received $760,955; The Greenville Clinic, $16,722; AIDS Service Coalition, $350,000; Delta Health Systems, $891,750; Delta Health Transformation Council, $3 million; and Delta Health Center Inc., $491,621. These funds will be used to modernize facilities, expand services, and improve health outcomes in rural communities across the state.
