Greenville unveils first placemaking sign along Great River Road

Greenville has unveiled its first placemaking sign along the Great River Road, highlighting the city’s significance and its connection to the Mississippi River.

The initiative was sponsored by musician Steve Azar and the Saint Cecilia Foundation, according to local officials.

Officials said the sign aims to boost educational opportunities, promote regional pride, and emphasize Greenville’s role along the Mighty Mississippi. It also seeks to enhance civic awareness of the area’s cultural and historical importance.

The project is part of broader efforts supported by the Mississippi Development Authority, the City of Greenville, the Greenville-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Mississippi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Entergy Mississippi, the Mississippi Arts Commission, and the Rural LISC Foundation for the Mid South.
