Greenville Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Department Have Some Fun at Fair
City and county law enforcement officers participated in a friendly competition at the Greenville Carnival on Saturday. The event included a basketball shooting challenge designed to foster community engagement, according to Mayor Errick D. Simmons.
During the event, Lt. Allen represented the Greenville Police Department, while Deputy Ozell Clay took part for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Officer Kendrick Moore also participated by riding a kiddie horse, adding a humorous twist to the contest.
Greenville Police Department officials said the event was meant to highlight the community-oriented side of law enforcement. As the competition concluded, GPD came up just short of victory, and one officer humorously paid the price by riding the kiddie horse, drawing laughter from attendees.
Mayor Simmons emphasized that such events help build strong partnerships between law enforcement and the community. He said they demonstrate that officers are dedicated public servants who can connect with residents beyond their usual duties.
Officials noted that the event fostered a positive atmosphere and showcased the community’s spirit. The carnival activities aimed to strengthen bonds and promote safety through community engagement, they added.
