Community Event Highlights HIV PrEP Education and Access in Greenville
Community Health Pier, in partnership with the Mayor’s Health Council, is hosting an event to promote awareness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Greenville, Mississippi. The event aims to provide accurate information about PrEP, a highly effective HIV prevention tool.
According to organizers, PrEP is up to 99% effective at preventing HIV when taken as prescribed. It is FDA-approved and available by prescription. Most users experience little to no side effects, and the medication is often provided at no cost and delivered discreetly.
While PrEP protects against HIV, organizers emphasize that it does not prevent other sexually transmitted infections, so testing remains important. Community members are encouraged to learn more about PrEP’s benefits and access options to help reduce HIV transmission in Black communities.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons urged residents to participate in the event, calling it an opportunity to connect data, trust, and action to build healthier futures. The event is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buster Brown Community Center, located at 400 E. Robertshaw St. in Greenville.
Organizers promoted the event using hashtags including #WhatYouSharedWhatWeBuilt, #HIVPrEP101, and #BlackHealthMatters, emphasizing the importance of health equity and prevention efforts in the community.
