Smithsonian’s Spark! Innovation session coming to Greenville

Greenville, Miss. — A Smithsonian Institute event focused on community innovation is scheduled to take place at the Greenville Higher Education Center on Sept. 28.

The session, titled Spark! Places of Innovation, will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is designed to help municipal and community leaders identify existing assets that can be used to improve economic and community development, according to organizers.

Dr. Joe Fratesi of Mississippi State University’s Stennis Institute will facilitate the interactive event. It will include a tour of the Smithsonian exhibit and a discussion on transforming local resources into new opportunities.

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed pride in hosting the event, highlighting the community’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities. “Greenville and the Mississippi Delta have always known how to turn challenges into creativity and resources into opportunity,” he said.

The event aims to inspire rural innovation and economic progress through local collaboration, organizers said. Attendees will explore how small efforts can lead to significant community improvements.
