Severe storms threaten Mississippi and Louisiana with damaging winds, hail and potential tornadoes
Severe storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail up to half a dollar in size are forecast through this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi.
A tornado cannot be ruled out south of the I-20 corridor, the agency said.
Localized rainfall of 3 to 5 inches over a short period could lead to flash flooding across central and south Mississippi and northeast Louisiana. The threat is highest in urban and low-lying areas, the weather service warned.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert for severe weather alerts and take appropriate safety precautions.
