NWS confirms three EF-0 tornadoes and wind damage from April storms

The National Weather Service in Jackson has concluded damage surveys from severe weather that occurred on April 28 and 29, 2026. The surveys confirmed three EF-0 tornadoes, one each in Ashley County, Arkansas, and Jasper and Washington counties in Mississippi.

In addition to the tornadoes, survey teams identified two areas of straight-line wind damage with estimated winds reaching up to 80 mph in Ashley County, Arkansas, and Jasper County, Mississippi. Details of the survey findings are available on the NWS website.

The NWS noted that as new public information statements are issued, the most current updates will be posted online. The storm system responsible for the severe weather is still tracking across the southern U.S., bringing heavy thunderstorms, severe weather risks, and heavy rainfall from Texas to Florida this weekend. While the rainfall may help alleviate drought conditions, there is also a potential for flash flooding in some areas.
