Mississippi House approves $5,000 teacher pay raise
The Mississippi House of Representatives has unanimously approved a $5,000 pay raise for teachers, according to state officials.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons thanked all Mississippi legislators for their support. In a statement, Simmons said, “Education is essential, educators are indispensable—and together they shape the future of our children, our communities, and our nation.”
So far, every Mississippi lawmaker has voted in favor of increasing teacher pay, with the House supporting the $5,000 raise and the Senate endorsing a $2,000 increase.
The legislation now moves to the Senate for consideration.
