Mississippi Delta Community College celebrates centennial with coronation ceremony in Greenville
Greenville, Miss. — Mississippi Delta Community College celebrated its 100th anniversary Saturday with a coronation ceremony for its Mr. and Miss MDCC. The event took place at the Greenville Higher Education Center and was attended by Mayor Errick D. Simmons, college President Steven Jones, MDCC officials, students, families, and community members.
During the celebration, students and attendees honored the accomplishments of young leaders from Greenville and across the Mississippi Delta. Second-grade students Elin Simmons and Serenity Stafford from Matty Akin Elementary School served as coronation attendants, adding a festive touch to the event.
Mayor Simmons praised the college’s milestone, emphasizing the importance of investing in education and youth development. “When we celebrate our young people, we celebrate our future,” Simmons said. “When we invest in education, we invest in opportunity, and when we lift up the next generation, we lift up the entire Mississippi Delta.”
Simmons highlighted the significance of the centennial, noting that 100 years of educational excellence serve as both a tribute to the past and an inspiration for future leaders. “From elementary classrooms to college campuses, the pathway to greatness begins with opportunity, encouragement, and the belief that every child can achieve extraordinary things,” he said.
The event underscored MDCC’s long history of transforming lives through education and its ongoing commitment to community development, according to a college news release.
