Mississippi community leaders hold Delta Dialogue on civic engagement

Greenville, Mississippi – Community leaders, students, and elected officials gathered in Greenville for a Delta Dialogue focused on civic engagement and voter education, according to the city’s social media posts.

The event was organized by Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE) in partnership with Mayor Errick D. Simmons and the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus. Participants discussed topics including voting rights, redistricting, the legislative process, and youth leadership development.

Mayor Simmons emphasized the importance of involving young people in civic conversations. “When we bring our young people into the conversation, we do more than educate them—we empower them,” Simmons said. “The future of the Delta and Mississippi depends on an informed, engaged, and prepared generation ready to lead.”

Participants included students from Western Line School District, educators, and community members. The event aimed to foster greater engagement and strengthen leadership in the Mississippi Delta region.

The dialogue was part of Blues Week activities and promoted ongoing efforts to boost civic participation among young Mississippians, according to organizers.
