Jim’s Cafe in Greenville to close after 117 years

Jim’s Cafe, a historic landmark in Greenville, Mississippi, will close on May 1, 2026, after 117 years of operation, according to city officials.

The restaurant has been a community staple for generations, known for its food, fellowship, and tradition. It was under the stewardship of Gus Johnson, Evelyn Brown, and their family for the past 92 years.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed appreciation for the Johnson and Brown families, staff, and patrons who contributed to the cafe’s legacy. In a statement, he said the closure marks a significant moment in Greenville’s history and reflects ongoing community changes.

City officials acknowledged Jim’s Cafe’s role in the town’s past and its importance as a symbol of Greenville’s progress. The establishment will now become part of the city’s historical record, serving as a reminder of its enduring community significance.
