Heat Wave Prompts Health Warnings in Mississippi

Higher temperatures are expected to bring dangerous heat stress to northern Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. The heat will be concentrated north of the Interstate 20 corridor through Saturday, with conditions worsening late weekend into early next week.

Peak heat indices are forecast to reach around 105°F through Saturday. By late weekend and into early next week, indices could climb between 105°F and 110°F, prompting health warnings from officials.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including taking breaks and staying hydrated if outdoors for extended periods. The weather service emphasized the dangers of heat-related illnesses during this period of elevated temperatures.
