Greenville Welcomes Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus for Annual Retreat and Blues Week

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons announced the city’s hosting of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC) this week for its 2026 Annual Legislative Retreat. The event brings state lawmakers to the Mississippi Delta for legislative planning, community engagement, and Blues Week activities, according to a city news release.

The MLBC is meeting at Harlow’s Casino Resort and Spa and plans to hold a public town hall at the Elks Lodge. Mayor Simmons will host the Mayor’s Blues Reception, and lawmakers will participate in Delta Dialogue and attend the 49th Mississippi Delta Blues & Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 19. The festival will be held at the Washington County Convention Center and Fairgrounds, with gates opening at 10 a.m., officials said.

In a statement, Mayor Simmons expressed enthusiasm about the week’s activities. “This is an exciting week for Greenville as we bring together culture, community, civic engagement, and leadership,” he said. “We are proud to welcome members of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus to the heart of the Delta—not only to experience our Blues, but to engage directly with the people of Greenville and the Mississippi Delta about the issues shaping our communities and our future.”

The week’s schedule includes Blues in the Schools outreach, community activities, and various events culminating in the festival, which celebrates the Delta’s influence on music and culture. The city encourages residents and visitors to participate in the events and celebrate the region’s rich heritage, officials added.
