Greenville resumes paving on Holmes Street after funding approval

Greenville officials have resumed paving work on Holmes Street, focusing on the section in front of Bell Grove Church. City crews returned to the site after Mayor Errick D. Simmons secured a revised Council Order to allocate funds for the project, according to a city news release.

Mayor Simmons spoke with Pastor JD Yates to update him on the process needed to approve the funding. The mayor emphasized the importance of working through government procedures to ensure progress.

“Sometimes progress requires working through the process, but what matters is that we keep working until the job gets done,” Simmons said in the statement. “I appreciate Pastor Yates and the Bell Grove Church family for their patience and understanding as we worked through the necessary local government procedures. Today, crews are back on Holmes Street, and we are delivering on our commitment to improve this roadway.”

The city continues to work on infrastructure improvements across Greenville, from neighborhood streets to major corridors. Officials say the pavement work is temporary, but the progress is permanent. Greenville officials stressed that the city is moving forward with its infrastructure projects, one street at a time.
