Greenville Recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month with Community Events and Proclamation

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons joined community partners and residents Monday to observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a formal proclamation, reaffirming the city’s commitment to supporting survivors and prevention efforts.

The city hosted the Denim Day Talk: Boot Walk and a Community Resource Fair, organized by Our House, Inc. and Strategic Solutions for Families. The events aimed to raise awareness, provide resources, and show solidarity with survivors.

In a statement, Simmons emphasized the importance of prevention and support. “April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to raise our voices for prevention, support survivors, and reaffirm our commitment to justice and healing,” he said. “Sexual violence impacts individuals, families, and communities. It demands not silence, but action.”

Simmons also highlighted the significance of Denim Day, which opposes victim-blaming. “We stand against victim-blaming and alongside survivors everywhere,” he said. “We send a clear message that no one should be shamed for violence committed against them.”

The mayor concluded by calling for continued education, advocacy, and support to create a community where dignity, consent, and safety are prioritized for all residents.
