Greenville pushes for over $7 million in state funding to boost infrastructure and economic growth

GREENSVILLE, Miss. — City officials from Greenville met with state lawmakers Tuesday at the Mississippi Capitol to discuss the city’s legislative priorities for 2026. The delegation included Mayor Errick D. Simmons, Ward 3 Councilman Vernon Greenlee, Justin Burch of Delta Compass, and engineer Daryl Martinek of W.L. Burle Engineers.

They met with Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and several senators, including Senate Minority Leader Derrick T. Simmons, Senate Appropriations Chairman W. Briggs Hopson, Senate Finance Chairman Josh Harkins, and Senate Tourism Chairman Lydia Chassaniol. The discussions centered on transportation infrastructure, sewer system upgrades, economic development initiatives, tourism expansion, and regional investment strategies.

The city formally requested more than $7 million in state funding — specifically, $7,053,578.20 — to address immediate transportation and sewer infrastructure needs. These projects aim to support Greenville’s efforts to leverage over $3.2 billion in ongoing investments from local, state, federal, and private sources.

Leaders also discussed Delta Compass’ request for $500,000 to support the construction of its Regional Intermediary Facility. The hub would serve as a center for entrepreneurship, workforce development, small business incubation, technical assistance, and regional planning across the Mississippi Delta.

Mayor Simmons highlighted the city’s momentum, stating that infrastructure investments combined with regional partnerships like Delta Compass position Greenville and the Delta region for long-term economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
