Greenville police recover two stolen vehicles, arrest suspect

Greenville police recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested a suspect following an investigation that began September 8. Officers responded to the 1500 block of Robertshaw Street after the victim reported the theft of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and a 2012 Nissan Altima.

The victim said personal items, including about $2,000 in cash, identification, a wallet, and additional vehicle keys, were inside the stolen vehicles. Both vehicles were entered into the National Crime Information Center as stolen.

Later that day, Greenville police received a FLOCK license plate reader alert indicating the Nissan Altima was detected near Alexander and Colorado streets. Officers responded and identified Markeal Johnson as a suspect. He was taken into custody after officers located the vehicle near College and Hyman streets.

Further investigation revealed the Chevrolet Impala had been taken to Leland, Mississippi. Greenville police contacted the Leland Police Department, which recovered the vehicle in the 100 block of Stalling Street. Both vehicles have since been recovered.

The Greenville Police Department thanked Leland police for their assistance. The investigation remains ongoing.
