Greenville police offer Halloween safety tips

The Greenville Police Department is urging residents to take precautions to help keep Halloween safe on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The department advised parents to accompany children or ensure they travel in supervised groups, wear reflective clothing, stay in familiar, well-lit areas and avoid entering strangers’ homes or vehicles. Parents should inspect candy before children eat it, the department said.

Motorists should slow down in residential neighborhoods, put away their phones and use extra caution near intersections and parked vehicles. The department also urged drivers not to drive impaired.

Homeowners should keep walkways clear and well-lit, secure pets and lock vehicles. The department advised residents to report suspicious activity to law enforcement rather than confronting people.

“Our children deserve to enjoy Halloween without fear, and every parent deserves the peace of mind of knowing their child is safe,” Police Chief Marcus R. Turner Sr. said. The department advised residents to call 911 in emergencies.
