Greenville man arrested in copper wire investigation

GREENVILLE, Miss. — A Greenville man was arrested Sunday after police responded to a report of someone cutting and removing copper wire from a property at 1422 Highway 1 South, the Greenville Police Department said.

Officer M. Holmes found Jason Hood behind a fence with a tool and copper wire, according to police. Officers detained Hood while they investigated.

Police said officers also found suspected drug paraphernalia, including a pipe commonly associated with methamphetamine use, in a case in Hood’s pocket. Investigators recovered about 20 feet of copper wire and two additional bundles, which they collected as evidence.

Hood was charged with possession of burglary tools and felony malicious mischief. He was taken to the police department for processing.

Police urged residents to report suspicious activity involving utility equipment, electrical wiring and vacant properties. The department said anyone with information can call 662-822-9110 or Crime Stoppers at 662-378-8477. Hood is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
