Greenville kicks off Black History Month with series highlighting Black leaders and history

The city of Greenville is observing Black History Month with a series of facts that highlight influential leaders, trailblazers, and historical moments. The initiative aims to honor the contributions that have shaped the nation, the world, and the local community, according to the city.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons emphasized the importance of recognizing Black history, stating, “Black history is American history. Black history is world history. It belongs to all of us, and everyone should join in the celebration.”

Throughout the month, Greenville encourages residents to learn, celebrate, and honor the legacy of Black excellence, resilience, and achievement. The city uses the hashtag #BlackHistoryMonth to promote the observance and educational efforts.
