Congressional Funding Boosts Greenville Homeless Shelter
Congressman Bennie G. Thompson visited the Sacred Space Homeless Shelter in Greenville on Tuesday, highlighting an $850,000 federal investment designated for the facility. The visit included Mayor Errick D. Simmons and local officials.
Mayor Simmons praised Thompson for his leadership and advocacy. He emphasized the importance of the shelter as a place where compassion meets action, restoring dignity and offering hope to those experiencing homelessness. Simmons said homelessness involves more than lack of housing; it encompasses the need for hope, stability, support, and pathways to self-sufficiency.
Simmons thanked Thompson for securing the federal funds and for his continued commitment to Greenville’s vulnerable residents. He noted that addressing homelessness requires a collaborative effort among federal, state, local, faith-based, nonprofit, and community organizations.
Thompson’s visit underscored the community’s focus on building pathways to stability and self-sufficiency. Officials said the investment aims to create lasting solutions and transform lives through compassion and support.
