Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office Marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is working to educate the community about the various forms of abuse and support resources for victims and survivors.

Domestic violence extends beyond physical harm and includes emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse, according to officials. Everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, and protected in their relationships.

Law enforcement officials encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help. Contact local law enforcement or support organizations for assistance. Resources include the 24-hour domestic violence hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or by texting “START” to 88788, and the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence at 1-800-989-3234. Additional support is available through the National Dating Abuse Helpline at 1-866-331-9474 or loveisrespect.org.

The sheriff’s office emphasizes that victims are not alone and that help is accessible for those in need.
