Cleveland Fire Department Promotes Fire Safety During Fire Prevention Week
The Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department is collaborating with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote fire safety education at local schools during Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” emphasizes the importance of safe charging habits for rechargeable devices.
NFPA officials highlight that many everyday devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes, and scooters, contain lithium-ion batteries. When damaged or improperly charged, these batteries can overheat, ignite, or explode, posing fire hazards.
The fire department is also educating students about recognizing the sound of a smoke alarm and knowing to “Get Low and Go” to the nearest exit in case of a fire. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about fire safety and battery hazards.
For more information on lithium-ion battery safety, residents are encouraged to visit fpw.org, according to the NFPA. The department thanked the Junior Fire Marshals for their participation in spreading these safety messages this week.
