Washington County Issues Burn Ban Amid Fire Weather Warning
Washington County Mayor Errick D. Simmons has alerted residents that a countywide burn ban remains in effect due to critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service in Jackson issued a Red Flag Warning for Friday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT. A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
The warning indicates that any fires that develop could spread rapidly. Officials warned residents to avoid outdoor burning and activities that could produce open flames or sparks. The combination of strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures creates ideal conditions for fast-moving fires, according to the weather service.
Simmons emphasized the importance of following the burn ban and exercising caution during this period. The warning underscores the need for residents to stay vigilant and prevent fire hazards during the high-risk weather conditions.
