Severe thunderstorms expected in the area Tuesday afternoon and evening

Severe thunderstorms are forecast to move across the area Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The primary threat is damaging winds, with gusts potentially reaching 70 mph, the agency said. Large hail between quarter and half-dollar size is also possible. Forecasters noted that tornadoes cannot be ruled out during the event.

The storms are expected to diminish early Wednesday morning, the weather service added.
