Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds expected in Mississippi and Arkansas this week
More storms are expected to impact the region, with the most widespread activity forecast for Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi.
Isolated severe storms are possible late Monday afternoon through Monday night across Southeast Arkansas and North Mississippi. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size, the agency said.
On Tuesday, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move across the area, with damaging winds as the primary threat. Gusts could reach up to 70 mph, and large hail between quarter and half dollar size is possible. The risk of tornadoes cannot be ruled out, the weather service added.
Storm activity may redevelop Wednesday afternoon, with isolated strong to marginally severe storms possible in some areas. These storms are expected to diminish by evening, the weather service reported.
Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor updates as the week progresses.
