Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Parts of Mississippi
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8:15 p.m. CDT for parts of Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service. The storm is moving east at 35 mph and is impacting Bolivar and Sunflower counties.
Affected communities include Cleveland, Rosedale, Skene, Ruleville, Boyle, Drew, Benoit, Merigold, Mound Bayou, and Renova, the agency said. Hazardous conditions are possible as the storm progresses.
The Weather Service advised residents to remain alert for a possible tornado, which can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. People are urged to seek shelter immediately if a tornado is sighted, moving to a basement or small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy structure.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. CDT for north-central and northwestern Mississippi. The Mississippi Weather Network will continue providing updates.
