Panola County adopts contractor registration policy to fight scams

The Panola County Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution to combat scams targeting residents. The measure requires contractors performing repairs or debris removal from Winter Storm Fern to register with the county’s Land Development Office.

Under the new policy, contractors must pay a $25 permit fee. The registration process aims to ensure work is performed by legitimate, properly registered contractors and to prevent scam activities, according to county officials.

The Land Development Office is located at 245 Eureka Street in Batesville and will open at 8 a.m. Monday. Residents are encouraged to ask contractors for a valid permit before allowing work to begin on their property, officials said.

The county urges residents to share this information with friends and neighbors to help protect the community from potential scams during recovery efforts.
