National Weather Service Reports Preliminary Tornado Damage in Mississippi
The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi, released preliminary survey results from the May 6 tornado event. The surveys are still ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
According to NWS officials, survey teams have assessed more than 70 miles of tornado path and documented 472 individual damage points. The process includes analyzing drone footage and high-resolution satellite imagery to better understand the extent of the damage.
Additional surveys are planned for Lamar and Forrest counties, which have not yet been fully examined. Teams are scheduled to visit these areas tomorrow to complete their assessments.
Officials noted that more details will be added over the coming days as the data is reviewed and compiled, with potential adjustments made to the preliminary findings.
