Mississippi wildlife officers assist communities during ice storm

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks officers are actively supporting communities across North Mississippi during the ongoing ice storm response, according to a department release.

About 40 officers are working 12-hour shifts to ensure 24-hour coverage. Their duties include assisting local authorities with patrols, conducting welfare checks, and providing security at warming and supply shelters.

The officers are also supporting other critical response efforts as weather conditions evolve. The department emphasized its commitment to public safety and helping communities navigate the severe weather event.
