Mississippi officials warn of scam text messages

The Panola County Sheriff’s Office shared a warning about scam text messages circulating in Mississippi. The messages claim to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles but are fraudulent, authorities said.

DPS Commissioner Sean Tindall reiterated the warning last week, noting that Mississippi does not have a DMV. Residents are urged to delete suspicious texts and report them as spam to protect themselves from scams.

Officials emphasized that residents should be cautious and verify any communication claiming to be from government agencies. No legitimate agency will ask for personal information via unsolicited text messages.
