Mississippi officials urge residents to report storm damage
Mayor Errick D. Simmons of Mississippi thanked Congressman Bennie G. Thompson for his dedicated service to residents and businesses in the district and across the state. Simmons urged residents affected by the recent winter ice storm to fill out damage assessment forms.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has provided citizen self-reporting links by county. Officials emphasize that this tool is for damage reporting only and is not a substitute for emergency services.
MEMA clarified that submitting a damage report is not an application for financial aid. The agency uses this data to assess the storm’s impact and coordinate response efforts.
Residents are reminded that if there is an immediate, life-threatening need following the storm, they should call 911. The self-reporting tool is not a 911 service.
