Mississippi faces enhanced risk of severe storms through Thursday morning

Mayor Errick D. Simmons has urged residents to stay weather-aware and prepared as a severe weather threat looms in Mississippi.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk, or Level 3 of 5, for severe storms in the state from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning, May 6-7.

Forecasters warn that the region could experience damaging winds up to 70 mph, hail up to golf ball size, and the possibility of strong tornadoes. Authorities emphasize the importance of staying alert, having multiple ways to receive warnings, and knowing safe places in case of emergency.

Mayor Simmons advised residents to monitor weather updates throughout the day and to be prepared for potentially dangerous conditions as the storm system approaches.
