Man shoots wife, then kills himself outside Greenville home

A woman in Greenville is recovering after being shot by her estranged husband, who then died by suicide outside a home on Belhaven Street Friday afternoon, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 12:30 p.m. after a FLOCK alert traced to the 200 block of Belhaven Street. When they arrived, they found a man and woman wounded outside the residence.

Investigators believe 39-year-old James McClinton shot his wife, 34-year-old Lekasha McClinton, in the back as she attempted to escape the home. He then shot himself, resulting in his death, police said.

Lekasha McClinton remains in critical condition, and the case is under further investigation, authorities said.
