Long-track tornado in Mississippi is longest in NWS Jackson area since 2023

National Weather Service Jackson, Mississippi, officials have confirmed that two previously reported EF3 tornado tracks were part of a single, continuous tornado. The storm traveled nearly 70 miles, making it the longest tornado track in the NWS Jackson area since the Rolling Fork tornado in 2023.

The tornado crossed paths with the EF3 McCall Creek tornado in 2024. It also caused damage to a truss tower similar to that of the McCall Creek tornado within the same transmission line, about seven miles apart, according to survey teams.

In addition, the survey confirmed an EF2 tornado outside of Purvis. That tornado touched down about 10 minutes after the long-track EF3 storm. No additional surveys are planned, but officials may update the assessment after further analysis, the NWS said.
