Law enforcement warns against scam phone call claiming warrant for jury duty

Law enforcement officials issued a warning Wednesday after receiving reports of a scam phone call targeting residents. In the call, a person identifying themselves as “Lt. Woods” told the recipient they had a warrant for missing jury duty.

Authorities confirmed they have no record of a Lt. Woods in their department. They emphasized they never contact residents by phone to notify them of warrants or to demand payments for fines.

Officials added that legitimate law enforcement agencies do not call individuals to request money over the phone or to settle fines. All court-related fines are handled through official court channels, not by phone payments.

Residents are urged to remain cautious and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be law enforcement before sharing personal information or making payments.
