Jackson County deputy killed in shooting during disturbance response
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Jimerson was shot and killed Wednesday night while responding to a disturbance at the Reserve Apartments on Washington Avenue in the St. Martin area, according to Sheriff John Ledbetter.
Authorities said Jimerson engaged in a brief foot pursuit with a female suspect, during which gunfire was exchanged. The deputy was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The female suspect was also killed, officials confirmed.
No other deputies were injured in the incident, the sheriff’s office reported. Jimerson, who began as a reserve deputy in 2010 and was hired full-time in 2014, was described by Sheriff Ledbetter as a valued member of the department and a trusted friend to many.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case, according to officials.
