Greenwood Proclaims April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Greenwood Mayor Cox and the city council announced April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month during a ceremony on Tuesday.

The proclamation coincides with the theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” and honors Our House, Inc., which has provided support to survivors for a quarter-century.

According to the Mississippi Violence Experiences Survey 2025, two in five adults have experienced sexual violence, underscoring the importance of ongoing awareness and prevention efforts, officials said.

Mayor Cox emphasized the community’s commitment to supporting survivors and creating a safer environment. She encouraged those in need to contact Our House, Inc., or call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).

Organizations like Our House, Inc. continue to work tirelessly to provide hope, healing, and support to victims of sexual violence in Greenwood and across the region.
