Greenville unveils Bottle Tree Park on historic Nelson Street

Greenville marked a historic day with the unveiling of Bottle Tree Park on Nelson Street, a project aimed at revitalizing the historic corridor. Mayor Errick D. Simmons joined local, state, and community leaders for the ceremony.

“Nelson Street represents generations of Black entrepreneurship, culture, music, resilience, and community,” Simmons said. “Bottle Tree Park honors that rich history while investing in the future of this corridor. We are preserving our heritage, creating new opportunities, and continuing to move Greenville forward.”

Mayor Simmons thanked Mississippi Department of Transportation Central Commissioner Willie Simmons for his ongoing investments throughout the Central District. He also expressed gratitude to Justin Archer Burch and Delta Compass – WCEA for their leadership, artist Lauren Bostic for her creativity, and other partners involved in the project.

Additional supporters included Ward 4 Councilwoman Lurann Thomas-Kingdom, the Washington County Economic Alliance, Mississippi Arts Commission, America 250, and various program participants and supporters. The event emphasized Greenville’s commitment to heritage preservation and economic development as Nelson Street continues to rise.
