Greenville Mid-Delta Airport Earns FAA Certification, Opens Door for Larger Aircraft and Commercial Service
The Greenville Mid-Delta Airport has received its Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 139 Airport Operating Certificate and a Class I designation, effective September 24, 2026, according to city officials. The certification confirms that the airport meets federal safety and operational standards, allowing for expanded commercial aviation activities.
Airport Director Levell Hawkins said the certification removes limitations on aircraft size and category, enabling the airport to accommodate larger planes with approximately 50 seats. He added that the certification positions Greenville to pursue new commercial service opportunities with major airlines such as American, Delta, and United, though airline decisions will ultimately determine service additions.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons called the milestone a regional opportunity, emphasizing its potential to improve transportation access, economic growth, and connectivity across the Mississippi Delta. He highlighted plans to build on existing service connecting Greenville to major hubs like Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Simmons also praised the efforts of airport staff, the Greenville City Council, and federal partners for their work in achieving the certification. He noted that the milestone represents more than just operational readiness — it signifies increased possibilities and a brighter future for Greenville and the surrounding region.
Officials said the certification enhances safety standards, allows for larger aircraft, and promotes greater regional connectivity, supporting economic development and competitiveness throughout the Mississippi Delta.
