Greenville Mayor Visits Riverside Elementary to Teach Third Graders About Leadership

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons visited Riverside Elementary School on Wednesday to speak with third-grade students about government and leadership. During the interactive session, Simmons explained how federal, state, and local governments work together to serve communities.

The mayor emphasized the importance of leadership, citizenship, and public service. He shared how his role as mayor involves promoting safety, improving infrastructure, and creating economic opportunities in Greenville.

Simmons told students, “You don’t have to be old enough to vote to be young enough to lead. Government is about people. Every one of you has the power to make a difference. You may be third graders today, but you are tomorrow’s teachers, doctors, lawyers, business owners, community leaders, and perhaps even mayors.”

The mayor also expressed appreciation for the efforts of third-grade teachers Aurelia Lockett, Hannah Koenig, and Kim Lassett, praising their dedication to inspiring young minds. He encouraged students to dream big, ask questions, and remember that leadership begins with service.

Simmons concluded by reminding students that their voices and dreams matter, emphasizing the importance of civic education in empowering future leaders. The visit aimed to inspire students to see themselves as active participants in their community’s future.
