Greenville Mayor Thanks Volunteers for Building Home and Hope

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons expressed gratitude to the Fuller Center for Housing and volunteers who traveled from Florida, Chicago, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh to help build a home at 1733 May Street, according to a statement from the city.

Simmons highlighted the leadership of Sheila Washington, president of the Fuller Center for Housing of Greenville; Pastor Antoinette Gibbs-Walton; and contractor Taurus McElvaine. He praised the volunteers’ dedication and the collective effort involved in the project.

He said every board raised and nail driven symbolized more than construction — it represented hope, compassion, and community. Simmons emphasized that the project exemplifies the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors and turning service into a place a family can call home.

The mayor also thanked supporters for investing in Greenville, patronizing local businesses like Doe’s Eat Place, and contributing to the community’s future. He concluded that the effort was about more than building houses — it was about building hope and strengthening families in Greenville.
