Greenville Mayor, Mississippi DOT Discuss Infrastructure Improvements on Historic Nelson Street

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons joined Mississippi Department of Transportation Central Commissioner Willie Simmons on Friday to tour Nelson Street and discuss infrastructure projects funded by the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant.

The visit focused on improvements such as sidewalks, pedestrian access, safety, connectivity, and streetscape enhancements. Officials aim to honor Nelson Street’s history while promoting future growth.

“Historic Nelson Street represents generations of culture, entrepreneurship, music, and community. We are working to ensure that the infrastructure reflects the significance of this historic corridor and supports new investment, tourism, businesses, and opportunities for generations to come,” Simmons said.

Simmons also thanked Commissioner Willie Simmons for his ongoing partnership and commitment to transportation and infrastructure development in Greenville and the Mississippi Delta. The efforts aim to preserve the area’s history while fostering economic growth and improved connectivity.
