Greenville Mayor Calls for Unity and Reconciliation at Community Worship Service
Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons encouraged community members to prioritize reconciliation and relationships over infrastructure during a worship service at the E. E. Bass Center. The event brought together pastors, ministers, churches, and residents from diverse backgrounds.
In his remarks, Simmons stated that the city’s greatest strength lies in its people and their bonds. He emphasized that unity is more than just words, urging the community to practice reconciliation and love regardless of differences. “The ground is level at the foot of the Cross,” he said. “We do not have to look alike to love alike, and we do not have to agree on everything to stand together for Christ.”
Simmons expressed gratitude to Mission Mississippi, participating churches, and community members who helped organize the event. He highlighted the importance of building bridges of understanding and compassion to shape a better future for Greenville.
The service featured prayers, scripture readings, and uplifting songs performed by Mission Mississippi Community Voices. Leaders such as Rev. Dr. J.D. Yates and Minister Judy Kingdom delivered messages of faith and unity. Simmons reminded attendees that through God’s grace, communities can change how they treat one another today and for generations to come.
He concluded by emphasizing that Greenville’s strength is rooted in its relationships and shared faith. “When we pray together, we grow together. When we worship together, we build together. And when we stand together for Christ, we become stronger as a community,” Simmons said. “One city. One community. One faith. One love.”
