Greenville Honors Nelson Street as Black Main Street in New Exhibit

Greenville officials have unveiled a new exhibit honoring Nelson Street, a historic thoroughfare known for its role in Black resilience and enterprise in the Mississippi Delta.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons said the exhibit celebrates the street’s history, endurance, and future. He emphasized that Nelson Street tells the story of Black excellence in the region.

The exhibit features an image of a young African American child reading, symbolizing the importance of knowledge, culture, and history as foundations for the community’s future, Simmons said. Greenville aims to preserve its story and elevate Nelson Street as The Delta’s Black Main Street.
