Greenville Holds 2nd Annual Suicide Awareness Walk for Hope

Mayor Errick D. Simmons of Greenville, Mississippi, expressed gratitude to the Pablo Foundation for its partnership in organizing the second annual Suicide Awareness Walk for Hope. The event aims to promote awareness, hope, and healing in the community, according to a statement from the mayor.

In his remarks, Simmons emphasized the importance of mental health and community connection. “This walk is about more than awareness—it is about hope, healing, compassion, and reminding people that they are not alone,” he said. “Mental health matters, every life has value, and sometimes simply showing up, listening, and connecting someone to help can make a life-changing difference.”

The mayor thanked the Pablo Foundation and Ms. Remelda Lewis, the Mayor’s Health Council coordinator, for their leadership. He also recognized participating vendors and community partners, including WellCare, Mississippi Family Residency Clinic, Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services, Rainbow Lady, and the Greenville Fire Department, for providing resources and support during the event.

Simmons highlighted the broader goal of reducing stigma and encouraging residents to seek help. “Together, we are breaking the silence, reducing the stigma, and building a Greenville where people know that it is okay to ask for help, there is strength in seeking support, and there is always hope,” he said. “We walk for those we have lost. We walk for those who are struggling. We walk for families. And most importantly, we walk for hope.”
