Greenville faces low water pressure amid drought and main breaks
The city of Greenville is experiencing low water pressure in some areas due to water main breaks linked to prolonged drought conditions and dry soil. Officials say the soil shrinks and shifts during droughts, putting stress on underground pipes and causing cracks or ruptures.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons said the Water Department crews are working to identify and repair the breaks to restore normal water pressure. Residents are urged to conserve water and report any visible leaks or breaks to the department.
“Reliable water service is a necessity for our families, businesses, schools, and hospitals,” Simmons said. “We recognize the inconvenience and are committed to responding promptly, improving our aging infrastructure, and strengthening system reliability.”
The city emphasizes that drought conditions have exacerbated the issue but remains determined to serve the community through these challenges. Officials ask for patience and cooperation as repairs continue.
