Coahoma County issues travel advisory as black ice threat persists

Coahoma County authorities have issued an urgent weather and travel advisory for Jan. 28, 2026. Despite some melting during the day, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing tonight, leading to rapid refreezing and dangerous black ice on roads and walkways.

Officials advise residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Road conditions remain extremely hazardous, and officials emphasize that safety should come first. “If it’s not worth your life, it’s not worth taking the chance,” a county spokesperson said.

Photos taken from various locations, including 61 N, Highway 1, 49 N, 49 S, and Highway 315, illustrate the icy conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
